What is Sixes Lacrosse?
In May 2021, World Lacrosse formally introduced a new discipline of lacrosse — World Lacrosse Sixes, based on a 6v6 format. The response to World Lacrosse Sixes has been overwhelmingly positive and is expected to pave the way for international play in the future. Most recently, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) granted Full Recognition to World Lacrosse based on the 6v6 format — a significant step forward to bring lacrosse to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, CA.

“The Game You Love Just Found a New Gear” is more than a catchy phrase. It speaks to the tempo created by the Sixes format. From smaller fields and smaller rosters to the two-way play of the game, the format is designed to emphasize a faster tempo and small-space creativity — prevalent in box and increasingly important in field lacrosse.

Sixes Field
Sixes fields are 1/3 the size of a traditional lacrosse field — approximately 70 yards long and 40 yards wide. A smaller field means more action, more reps and more of the game we love to play. Sixes is often compared to basketball, where the pace of play is non-stop. On average, sixes players will touch the ball 30% more — meaning more shots, more dodges, more defensive stands and more saves.
